DESCRIPTION
The FieldWorks FW 5000 is a consumer-oriented ruggedized laptop computer that can withstand a 100G-force shock and meets military tank standards for vibration and shock. The shell is made of a lightweight magnesium alloy that is ten times stronger than plastic. The system will operate in extreme climatic conditions, including dust, sand, heat and humidity. The FW 5000 is based on a 100MHz 486DX4 processor, which can be upgraded to a 100MHz or 133HMz Pentium. It includes a ruggedized 340MB hard drive, which can be upgraded to 510MB, 810MB or 1.3GB, a removable 1.44MB floppy drive, a 10.4-inch dual-scan color LCD monitor and integrated 16-bit stereo sound. The ruggedization makes the FW 5000 heavier than most laptops and the system weighs 10 pounds
